At SP, we are never short of things to be proud of. Our students, our staff, our alumni. Every year, SP graduates continue to shine on numerous fronts, clinching prestigious scholarships from various organizations and this year is no exception! Here, we proudly present four alumni from the class of 2019 who dared to dream bigger to go after the prestigious Public Service Commission (PSC) scholarship, and were successful!
Low Guan Min was very focused on her choice of college after ‘O’ Levels. Unfortunately, things did not go according to plan and she did not secure a place in her preferred college. However, she recomposed herself and visited SP Open House where she discovered the Diploma in Media & Communication. Today, she reflects that choosing this course was one of the best decisions she has ever made – it helped find her true passion in communication work such as writing, advertising and public relations. The Diploma in Media & Communication alumna will be reading Business with a minor in Strategic Communication at Nanyang Technological University.
When her grandpa was diagnosed with prostate cancer, Foo Yan Ling was in her final year at SP. Since then, the A*STAR undergraduate scholar vowed to study hard and one day, find a cure for cancer and help save lives. “The SP biomed’s curriculum exposed me to a myriad of subjects such as forensic biology and microbiology. The many hands-on experience also prepared me well for my internship,” she shares. The Diploma in Biomedical Science alumna will be reading Life Sciences at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
As a secondary three student, Julian Kang attended a one-day programme at SP’s Engineering Academy where he was exposed to hands-on activities and professional mentorship from experienced lecturers. That experience was enough to convince him that SP was the right choice. During his time at SP, besides excelling academically, Julian also co-founded MakerFoundryLLP, a startup which developed SPEEEEduino, a microcontroller board that impressed SP’s lecturers so much that they bought hundreds of it to aid in their teaching. The Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering alumnus plans to further his education in Engineering in the United States.
Fascinated by the relevance of infocomm security after attending a five day Advanced Elective Module on Cyber Security in SP, Teo Chuan Kai knew his calling. Not only was he energised to learn in SP because of the interesting ways his curriculum was presented, the Fuhua Secondary alumnus was also grateful to be given the opportunity to play a part in Singapore’s Smart Nation vision when he was offered a 17-week internship with GovTech. The Diploma in Infocomm Security Management alumnus will be continuing his studies in Infocomm Security at NUS.
