It’s the end of another successful run of Arts Fiesta! Congrats on a job well done to our SP fam! For Diploma in Applied Drama & Psychology student Nur Ili Batrisyia, her participation in SP Theatre Compass’ play, titled Off Centre, was more than just a performance.
Off Centre follows the lives of two students who, despite overcoming mental challenges, continue to face social stigma, prejudices and personal conflicts as they navigate each day. For Ili, who played the role of a mother of one of the students, her character was one whom she could relate to.
The vice-president of SP Theatre Compass, Ili’s mental wellbeing was compromised at 15 years old when her dad became an amputee and her elder brother passed away. The pressure she inflicted on herself also led to heated arguments with her mother.
She has since came a long way and shares, “I’ve been through it and I know how both parties feel. In addition to it being educational, I hope the play has, in some way, helped those who are going through tough times.”
