A career in advertising was far from Tracy Ong’s mind when she enrolled in the Diploma in Media & Communication course. Back then, her plan was just to get a good GPA so that she could qualify for University after graduation.
Her perspective changed after she was awarded the Ian Batey Scholarship, founded by the legendary Ian Batey, creator of the ‘Singapore Girl’ and other iconic ad campaigns. The scholarship was set up in 2012 with a $250,000 donation by Ian.
As a Batey Scholar, Tracy had the opportunity to be mentored by Ian and his former team. Tracy was also exposed to the advertising world during her 4-month internship with Arcade agency. The experience challenged Tracy to view advertising in a different light. There and then, Tracy knew that adverting was the career for her, “I want to change the perception of advertising industry and encourage others to take up new ideas and initiatives.”
After graduation, Tracy made a detour from the University pathway and joined Arcade as an Account Executive instead. She believed that the work experience would better able to help her in her career.
