Crystal Wong’s passion for animation and drawing started when she was in secondary school. She enjoys watching Japanese anime, such as D.Gray-Man, Fullmetal Alchemist and Naruto. Her love for anime eventually came in handy in her Diploma in Digital Animation (DDA) course, as her exposure to the different styles of animation helped her to visualise concepts and stories for her projects.
Her talent was paramount in helping her score an internship with her dream company, video game publisher Bandai Namco Studios Singapore. Bandai Namco is the creator of famous anime and games such as Tekken, Gundam, Tales of Vesperia as well as popular arcade game, Taiko No Tatsujin. Crystal worked on the company’s new game, Pokkén Tournament, which was recently released for Nintendo Wii U. Impressed with her work, the company offered her a full-time job after the internship.
She enjoys working with a team of very passionate people. At the company, Crystal sometimes get to help out with the concept for character designs, and even play test games once in a while!
On impressing potential internship companies, Crystal’s word of advice is to try to exceed their expectations. While it can be tough, she feels that it is totally worth it to putting in 120% effort to present a quality finished product.
